Kinetic toy brings smiles to Shriner
families during tough times
Chesapeake, Virginia, May 2007 -- When TriQuest
Equity Management founder Merle Gilley learned
that the Reception Room at the Shriners Hospital
For Children near Boston needed a more uplifting
atmosphere, he fixed the problem.
In May, the hospital unveiled a large audiokinetic
sculpture that mesmerizes, entertains, and relaxes
patients and families waiting for their appointments.
The glass-enclosed sculpture, named “Festiball,”
stands 7 feet by 7 feet, and includes colorful,
rolling balls and animal shapes that clatter and
chime.
Gilley, who is also co-founder of the nationwide
company Equity For Life, and co-founder Scott
Bergman of Wilbraham, Mass., paid $80,000 to Rock
Stream Studios to create the sculpture.
"My heart goes out to these courageous children
and families who've suffered major burns and are
putting their lives back together," said
Gilley. "If this sculpture brings a little
joy to their lives and makes their doctor appointments
a little more bearable, then we've accomplished
our goal."
